Toys have drastically changed since I was young. This interesting article introduces a new robot that is kid friendly. Children ages 5-12 are supposed to be able to use these robots to program in order to complete basic tasks. Children are encouraged to use their imagination. The article also states that the creators are encouraging programming to be taught in schools. Times have changed!
Technology is a great venue for extending learning. Of course, it can go to extremes. The use of imagination in programming these robot is a good tool. However, the next generation of children are now able to "create" their own playmates and research is beginning to show that technology is significantly affecting the social interaction abilities of our children. I just hope we don't go too far. Over the past few years in the classroom, I am seeing more and more children's inability to interact with their peers. But I enjoy the basic premise of the article. Just food for thought.
